Hello! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREADIES :D

one-year-2.jpg

Well I think the heading of the post is self-explanatory :P Although, what it fails to mention is that I’m also in line for the “World’s Most Negligent Blogger Award” - yes indeed, my lack of bloggage is shameful…and if there is actually anyone left who can still be bothered to check up on this place now and then, I’m very sorry for the absence of newness.

So, a year with dreads. Without a doubt, the easiest year of hair experience ever, and definitely the first of many many such years. No plans to get rid of these dreads at any time :)

Since my last post on here, I’ve been through another cycle of root bleaching and re-dying. Having got over the fear of bleaching since last time, I actually left it in for much longer this time, about 1.5 hours, rather than a closely-timed 40 minutes. The results were much better, and my roots actually came out mostly blonde rather than mostly orange. They still appeared rather yellow in the camera’s eyes though. So here’s a quick pictorial update of what I never got round to typing about :P

:D So that was a couple of weeks ago. Last night I added some more dye those blonde bits which I left deliberately, but which didn’t turn out looking as nice as I’d hoped.

In terms of general hair care/maintenance…less really is more. I’ve stopped using shampoo now. I was using Dr. Bronner’s soap for a while, and even though it’s nice (and an amazing face wash) it just didn’t seem to be doing anything so great to my hair. I’ve been washing my dreads with just water for several weeks now, and am really happy with how it’s going; I recommend it.

Another thing - my dreads felt so horrible after bleaching that I decided to condition them. It was so much fun! Very powerful effect though. All I did was very quickly rub a bit of it through my dreads, and immediately rinsed thoroughly, yet the change was instant. As the water rinsed through them, they just went really floppy, and loose I guess, like all the hairs were moving. When dry, my hair felt much softer. I can see why regular conditioning is out of the question with dreadlocks…but I think I’m gonna do it sometimes, just coz it felt so nice :) If you feel like your dreads have become too compact or shortened, a bit of conditioner would allow them to relax back out a little. I used it to help un-pick some of my tips which were too rounded for my liking.

Ok, so back to the one year update :D I’ve made a few comparison pics, trying to use similar shots, where the first of each pair show my dreads at one day old, and the second shows them today, at one year:

I hope you can see the difference :P lol

I’ve got lots more pics, which I haven’t finished sorting out yet, but I’ll be adding them to flickr over the next couple of days, and they’ll automatically appear in the slideshow on my Gallery page too, so keep an eye out if you’re interested.

Ok I’ve been sitting at the computer too long now so I’m going!  Bye-bye!

Yay for dreads!

:D

You’re not only beautiful but your blog is informative and inspiring! Moreso than any of the other websites I’ve looked at, yours is the one I’ve found the most useful information from. So, many kudos!
